Master Thesis in Sociology

In this course, you write a thesis that should be clearly rooted in relevant sociological theory, using established social science analysis methods.

In the course, the student must independently carry out a research project that is presented in an essay. The work must be clearly anchored in relevant sociological theory and use established social science analysis methods.

The course starts with an introduction seminar.  Before you start working on your thesis, you also need to submit your thesis topic on the course site in order to have your intended project and supervisor approved by the course responsible.

Teaching Format

Introductory seminar, supervision and a final seminar.

Assessment

Active participation in three thesis seminars, defence of own thesis, as well as being a discussant for another student´s thesis, are compulsory. The examination seminars are held four times a year: the last week of the autumn and spring semesters, one in mid-March and one in October. Submission of the completed thesis takes place approximately two weeks before the examination seminar. For exact submission dates, see the course page in Athena.

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
