Sociological Perspectives on Organization and Leadership
This master’s level course aims to introduce advanced students to a range of sociological theories, concepts and empirical studies in the fields of organizations, leadership and labor markets.
For students in the Master’s Programme in Personnel, Work and Organization studying full time, this course takes place in their first term; for part-time students, it is scheduled for their third term. The course is also open to other interested students.
After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to explain the differences between various organizational, leadership and interaction theories, and relate them to each other. They should also be able to critically analyze different organisational, leadership and interaction theories from a sociological perspective. Additionally, the student is expected to be able to understand, explain and analyze contemporary workplace and labor market phenomena using the theories covered in the course.
Teaching Format
The course is structured around lectures. Each lecture is followed by a seminar, aimed at using theoretical knowledge to better understand organizations in practice.
Assessment
The course is examined through a written home exam, in which questions are answered in essay form, as well as through written assignments during the course, and through attendance and active participation in seminars.
