Transformative Urban and Regional Planning
This is a core course for students in the Master's Programme in Urban and Regional Planning, 120 HECs.
The course is open for students on the third semester of the Master's Programme in Human Geography, 120 HECs, and the Master's Programme in Globalization, Environment and Social Change, 120 HECs.
The course addresses the conditions and opportunities within transformative urban and regional planning to meet sustainability and climate challenges in cities and regions. The focus is particularly on goal conflicts, knowledge perspectives, the planner's agency, socio-technical and infrastructural conditions and implications in concrete cases.
Teaching Format
The course contains an introduction, lectures, laboratory work, seminars, field course and supervision.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of this course you are expected to be able to:
- critically analyze theories and normative concepts linked to transformative urban and regional planning,
- account for and problematize transformative urban and regional planning practices and their challenges,
- map and evaluate current practice cases within transformative urban and regional planning,
- apply digital tools to analyze and visualize current practice cases within transformative urban and regional planning.
Assessment
Assessment takes place through active participation in teaching and oral and written presentations of projects and assignments.
