Finnish Contemporary Literature

The course deals with Finnish contemporary literature in the 21st century and current research with a focus on genres, narrative and narrative structures. It aims to highlight central lines in Finnish and Swedish-Finnish contemporary literature and provides insights into contemporary children's and youth literature in Finnish.

In addition to individual works of fiction, fictional genres and the importance of literature for the reader are also analysed. The course focuses on issues of storytelling, such as the interplay between words and images, and on current themes such as environmental issues and diversity. The course also offers a didactic orientation in how fiction can be used as a resource in the planning of teaching in schools.
