Multilingualism in Finnish Literature

The course addresses issues of language, identity and minority position(s) and, in particular, the changes that have taken place in perceptions of the language of Finnish literature. It introduces different methods and theoretical perspectives used in research on literary multilingualism.

The course explores the history of multilingual literature in the Finnish and Swedish-Finnish contexts through a selection of key authors and their works. The course provides in-depth knowledge of different areas of research on literary multilingualism. This knowledge is applied in analyses of individual literary texts.



Teaching Format

Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars or alternatively own reading and supervision. Instruction is either online or campus-based, as specified for each course offering.

The language of instruction is Finnish.

Assessment

he course is examined on the basis of one written assignment in the form of four written assignments.

The language of examination is Finnish.

Examiner

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
