Sweden Finnish Literature

The course covers Sweden-Finnish literature and culture from the 1970s to the present day. It provides a picture of how Swedish-Finnish literature and its central genres have developed under specific historical conditions and what role they have played for Sweden-Finnishness.

The course is based on a minority research perspective, but also applies a transnational view of literature, where Swedish-Finnish literature is seen in relation to Finnish literary history writing, canon formation and research tradition in literary studies. In addition to individual works of fiction and authors, the special features of the Sweden-Finnish literary institutions are also discussed. Fiction is also related to phenomena in theatre and film.
