Research

Research at the Department of Child and Youth Studies focuses on young children, children, young people, and young adults in education and their leisure time. Children and young people's perspectives and ways of negotiating and acting are of particular interest. Thus, preschool, school and schoolage educare are examples of institutions where children's experiences and perspectives are examined.

Other important contexts where children and young people's everyday lives and construction of identity are studied are, for example, the media, where they live, families and their organisations.

Research projects at the Department of Child and Youth Studies

At the Department of Teaching and Learning we conduct research about teaching and learning in theory and practice. The research examines how teaching should be organized in a particular subject, in order to give students the best conditions for their knowledge development.

What content and teaching practices favor learning and why? How does learning differ in different subjects like mathematics, language or history? Our research focuses on all school subjects within all levels of education.
