Baltic Sea Ecosystem: Applications, Modeling and Management
The students will actively participate in all parts of the process starting with data assimilation, ecosystem modeling and future predictions, and ending with drawing conclusions and recommending management measures. The aim is that the students will gain a deeper understanding of both how to collect, analyze and model data from marine ecosystems and how these scientific data can be translated into management policy decisions. This is important whether the student will continue within environmental science or work with management aspects in society.
The course will consist of 4 blocks, containing lectures, practical work and dialogue meetings with people working in different authorities. A tentative outline of the course: 1) Theory: Science and Policy: Introductory lectures + introduction to modeling (2 weeks). This module will be finalized with a written exam. 2.) Fieldwork: Sampling and statistics (3 weeks). At our field station on Askö. 3) Indicators, modeling and scenario predictions (3 weeks) 4) Science communication and policy implementation (2 weeks).

Measurement of knowledge takes place through written examinations.
